Interested in working with us at Wakefield? See some of what we have achieved, what we offer and what we have planned.

Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in one of our exciting leadership roles.

Wakefield is a great place to live, work and do business. With excellent transport links you can get virtually anywhere by road or rail. Our strong cultural and lifestyle offering makes Wakefield an attractive location to live in or visit. Sixty percent of the district is rural and we are fortunate to boast some stunning countryside attractions and parks, which are complemented by a thriving city centre and major towns.

As a Council, our social values are incredibly important to us and we are passionate about improving the lives of all our residents.

Like most local authorities, Wakefield Council has seen its funding from government reduce significantly and we’ve had to respond to this.  We’ve risen to the challenge and are recognised as a ‘good’ council, however, we know that we still have more to do and where our focus needs to be.

We must take the opportunity to acknowledge these difficult and unprecedented times we are all facing, but also, how incredibly impressed we are by the work that all of our Council employees are doing to support residents and businesses across the District. In the last few months, many challenges and changes have been faced, both in our daily and working lives. Every day, we see and hear how individuals and teams are being asked to respond to new issues and overcome these through quick and imaginative solutions. We are proud of how professionally and effectively everyone has responded to this national crisis here at Wakefield Council.

As the local government environment evolves, and budgets continue to reduce, our services are constantly challenged and more change is inevitable. We need strong managerial leadership, working as an imaginative and collaborative team, to ensure our political vision translates to real impact.

We’re looking for strong expertise and the ability to lead transformational change, as well as providing robust performance management and service delivery.

Interested? You can find out more by exploring the rest of the ‘Our Wakefield’ website for further information.

We look forward to talking more in the future.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew BalchinCouncillor Denise Jeffery
